Hi everyone, I’m starting with Sprezzatura on Monday but thought I’d say hi for now. I thought I had a chest cold but was diagnosed with swine flu last week, and the first few days reminded me of having COVID. My husband didn’t catch it at all, despite me spluttering all over. I should finish my meds on Saturday. This was a bit of a wake up call for me – I’ve been doing some crash dieting (very very low calorie) and hard exercise and it looks like I’ve weakened my immune system, and didn’t even lose much weight to show for it. It’s been a reminder that being skinny isn’t everything!

I’m 34 and went on my first diet at 8 years old so I’m a veteran! By the time I was in Grade 4, I weighed more than 90kg. In my varsity days, I dropped down to around 65kg from a peak of 110kg in high school by running a lot and hardly eating. I couldn’t shake that “fat girl” feeling, even though looking back, I was in good shape, and always felt big, heavy and unworthy. My weight stabilized in my first few work years but I picked up close to 20kg again during the work-from-home COVID transition.

My focus now is to be healthy and to improve my relationship with food and with my body, and I’m hoping that the structure and support from Sprezzatura will help to keep me on track. I’ve realised that I have binge eating tendencies and self-sabotage often, and I’m working on journalling and learning about neuro linguistic programming to support the mental side of my journey to a more sustainable and positive lifestyle. We’re also going on holiday to Europe in October (by chance, in about 12 weeks!) and it would be great to feel comfortable and confident, and be able to walk and walk without feeling blobby and tired!
